6. First Aid Kits

The Washington State Department of Labor and Industries requires that first aid supplies be readily accessible for employees. The size and quantity of first aid kits is to be determined by the number of personnel served by each kit or station. (Policy Reference - WAC 296-800-15020). Contact Environmental Health & Safety for information to determine the appropriate size (335-3041). Central Stores stocks first aid kits and supplies.

  1. Each laboratory must establish procedures to assure that supplies in first aid kits are maintained and restocked to the required levels. Below are the contents of the typical first aid kit.

  2. The university's consulting physician (Director of Student Health Services) recommends that the following items supplement first aid kits. Add those items which seem best suited to your work environment in amounts appropriate for the size of your kit.
    • 1" adhesive tape (first aid type)
    • chemical cold pack
    • bee sting swabs
    • knuckle bandages (large or small)
    • finger tip bandages (large or small)
    • disposable thermometer (for kits located in offices only)
    • saline eyewash solution, 1 fl. oz.
    • adhesive bandages, 2" x 4 1/2"
    • adhesive bandages, 3/8" x 1 1/2"
